Delicious Teriyaki Chicken with Golden Syrup

You can actually make a good teriyaki chicken without mirin and sake.

Ingredients

Chicken breast fillet 1
Salt & pepper as required
Peppers (red and green) 1/2 each
Onion 1/2
Garlic 2 cloves
Vegetable oil 1 tbsp
White wine 4 tbsp
Soy sauce 4 tbsp
Golden syrup 4 tbsp

Method

Cut the chicken into a bitesize pieces then season with the salt & pepper. Chop the garlic and cut the peppers and onion into bitesize pieces.

Put the oil in a frying pan and add the chicken on high heat. Fry for 3 minutes on each side until it browns nicely.

Add the garlic, onions and peppers and stir for 3 minutes.

Add the wine and allow the alcohol to evaporate. Add the soy sauce and golden syrup and fry for 3 minutes.

Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle with lots of sesame seeds.

This is the golden syrup. It also comes in a plastic container.

Tips & Note

Golden syrup is a sweet brown syrup that is made in the sugar cane refining process. It has less taste than honey but it shines like mirin, so it does a pretty good job.
