Turnip and Prawn in a Sticky Sauce

Turnips are not used that often but try this dish with prawns for a wonderful flavour.

Ingredients

Turnips 3
Prawns 6
Stock 200g
Seasoning:
Sake 1 tbsp
Mirin 1 tbsp
9Soy sauce 2/3 tbsp
Potato starch or cornflour 1 tbsp
Water for the cornflour 1 tbsp

Method

Peel the turnips and slice into quarters. Boil for 3 minutes then drain. Cut the turnip tops into 1.5-2cm pieces.

Remove the prawns from their shells and remove the black veins. Chop coarsely.

Put the prawns and stock in a pan and bring to the boil. Turn down to a simmer and put the lid on. Remove any scum. Add the seasoning ingredients and Step 1 to the pan for 3-4 minutes.

Mix the potato starch in the water and add to thicken the sauce. It's now ready to enjoy!

Tips & Note

Put more turnips, it's surprising how nice they taste. You could make this with minced beef or pork instead of prawns if you like.
