Chocolate Bread & Butter Pudding

A typical British dessert, but with a chocolate twist - try it!

Ingredients

White sliced bread (medium) 10
Butter 70g
Nutmeg powder 1/2 tsp
Cinnamon powder 1/2 tsp
Milk 500ml
Double cream 150ml
Eggs (medium) 4
Sultanas or raisins 90g
Granulated sugar 50g
Vanilla Extract 1/2 tsp
Cocoa powder 3 tbsp

Method

Butter the bread slices on one side and cut into 4 triangles (40 pieces).

In a baking dish, arrange 20 pieces of bread, crust side down. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon, nutmeg and sultanas evenly.

Cover with the remaining bread, crust side up this time. Sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon, nutmeg and sultanas.

Put the milk, cream, vanilla extract and cocoa powder in a pan. Bring to just before the boil.

Put the eggs and 40g sugar in a bowl and mix well. Pour in the hot milk.

Pour Step 5 over Step 3 to cover the bread. Leave aside for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven 180C.

Just before you put the tin in the oven, press down the bread slices with the back of a spoon. Scoop up the milk and pour over the bread.

Sprinkle the last 10g sugar over the top and bake for 45 minutes.

Tips & Note

●You can use brown bread if you like, but white bread is far better, I recommend.
●Serve with apricot jam or vanilla ice cream to make it more delicious.
●If you have a sweet tooth, you might want to sprinkle more sugar over the top.
