Chinese Pork & Squash Steamed Dumplings (Shumai)

Ingredients

Butternut squash 80g
Minced pork 200g
Onion (small) 1/2
Ginger 1 tsp
Soy sauce 1.5 tbsp
Sake 1 tbsp
Five spice powder a pinch
Sugar 1 tbsp
Potato starch 1 tbsp
Sesame oil 1 tbsp
Dumpling wrappers 16-20
Sea salt as required
Pepper as required

Method

Peel the squash and microwave until soft for 8-10 minutes. Finely chop the onion.

Put the minced pork in a bowl and knead.

Add the grated ginger, soy sauce, sake, five spice powder, sugar, potato starch, sesame oil and salt & pepper.

Cut the squash into 5mm dice and add to Step 3 with the onions.

Keep in the fridge for 10 minutes.

Fill spoonfuls of the mixture into the wrappers and steam for 7 minutes.

Tips & Note

●Serve with a chilli sauce or soy sauce - something hot and spicy will be nice.
