Daal Curry (Lentil Curry)

Kids love the sweetness of the lentils used in this daal curry.

Ingredients

Onion 1
Yellow lentils 1 cup
Garlic 1 clove
Ginger 1 thumb
Mustard seeds 1 heaped tsp
Cumin seeds 1 heaped tsp
Coriander seeds 1 heaped tsp
Fennel seeds 1 heaped tsp
Curry powder 1 heaped tsp
Crushed chilli 1 tsp
Curry leaves as required
Turmeric 1-2 tsp
Tamarind 1 heaped tsp
Salt as required
Vegetable oil as required

Method

Slice the onion, finely chop the garlic and ginger.

Put the oil in a pan, add the onion and fry until soft.

Add the garlic, ginger, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, fennel seeds, curry powder...

chilli, curry leaves and turmeric. Fry until you get a lovey aromatic smell.

Add the lentils and stir well to mix. Add the water.

Bring to the boil, remove the scum, then turn the heat to low. Cook until the lentils are soft.

Add the tamarind and salt and adjust to taste. It'snow ready.

You can get the spices and lentils from an Indian supermarket in bags which will be a reasonable cost.
