Teriyaki Tofu Chunks

Sweet and salty - everyone will love this taste! So easy to make for a home party too.

Ingredients

Tofu (medium firm) 1
Potato starch as required
Vegetable oil 1 tbsp
Butter 1 tsp
Soy sauce 2 tbsp
Sake 2 tbsp
Mirin 2 tbsp
Granulated sugar 2 tbsp
Spring onion 1

Method

Wrap the tofu with kitchen paper and put on a plate. Put a flat plate on top with a weight and keep for 10 minutes, then drain the excess water.

Cut into half across then into bitesize chunks. Dredge with potato starch. Put the oil in a frying pan on medium heat and fry the tofu.

Cook until nicely browned on both sides then add the butter.

Add the soy sauce, mirin sake and sugar and allow the alcohol to evaporate. Reduce the sauce.

Transfer to a serving dish and pour over the sauce. Sprinkle with finely sliced spring onions before serving.

I used this House Foods medium firm tofu, it works really well.

Tips & Note

Use the same amount of the 4 basic seasonings, but adjust to your own taste. Add 1 tsp Chinese chilli bean sauce for a spicy teriyaki version.
