Braised Fennel with Meat Sauce

The crunchy fennel with the thick meaty sauce makes my mouth water!

Ingredients

Fennel 1
Meat sauce:
Mince (any except beef) 150g
Dashi stock 2 cups
Soy sauce 2 tbsp
Mirin 1 tbsp
Sake 2 tbsp
Sugar 1 tbsp
Potato starch in water as required

Method

1
Thickly slice the fennel and fry in a frying pan (no oil).

Put some oil in a different frying pan and fry the minced meat until cooked. Add the stock and all the seasonings from soy sauce to sugar.

Bring to the boil then simmer for 5 minutes on medium heat. Remove any scum. Add the potato starch to thicken the sauce.

Put the fennel from Step 1 onto a dish and pour over the sauce before serving.
