Bolognese Sauce

Adding the vegetables, meat and beans make this bolognese sauce a hit with everyone.

Ingredients

Minced beef 500g
Onion 2
Carrots 2 large
Celery 2
Mushrooms 6
Garlic 2 cloves
Kidney beans 1 tin
Whole tomatoes 3 tins (400g each)
Flour 4 tbsp
Vegetable oil as required
(A)
Red wine 1/2 cup
Worcester sauce 3 tbsp
Sugar 1 tbsp
Soy sauce 1 tbsp
Salt & pepper a little
Bay leaves 2
Stock cubes 2
Nutmeg a little
Thyme a little

Method

Put the vegetable oil in a large pan. Fry the finely chopped garlic and onions on a low to medium heat.

Don't let it burn. Add the finely chopped carrot, celery and mushrooms. Allow to soften.

Move the vegetables to one side then add the minced beef into the oil. Stir fry until cooked.

Add the flour and fry again. Add all the tinned tomatoes including the juice.

Add all the ingredients A and the kidney beans. Stir on a medium low heat for 20 minutes. It's ready to serve.

Tips & Note

※I always make a lot of this sauce and freeze it.
※Adding the kidney beans makes this sauce like a Mexican chilli con carne.
