Catalan Tomato on Bread (Pan con Tomate)

A typical traditional way of eating bread in Catalunya, Spain, it's a very basic and simple recipe.

Ingredients

Your favourite bread as required
Garlic 1 clove
Ripe tomato (medium) 1
Extra virgin olive oil as required
Salt as required

Method

Toast your favourite bread slices until brown. Rub with a garlic clove 5-6 times evenly.

Drizzle with 1-2 tsp olive oil. Slice the tomato horizontally then press with your fingers as you rub into the toast. Spread the olive oil as you rub in the tomato, the bread should evenly absorb both.

Lightly sprinkle with salt and enjoy! It's also delicious with a touch of anchovy or some parma ham on top.

Tips & Note

I used Maldon salt (from Essex).
