Beef & Potato Casserole (Niku Jaga)

Boys love to eat mum's food, and this is a favourite...using a pressure cooker, you can cook this really quickly.

Ingredients

Minced beef 300g
Potatoes 500g
Onions 500g
Carrots 300g
Fish cakes (kamaboko) 4
Soy sauce 3 tbsp
Sake 3 tbsp
Mirin 3 tbsp
Sugar 3 tbsp
Dashi stock granules 1 tsp
Water 300ml

Method

Here are the ingredients.

Put the oil in a pressure cooker and add the minced beef and fry on medium heat until nicely browned. Add the chopped vegetables and fry for 1 minute.

Add the water and bring to the boil. Remove any scum.

Put the lid on and cook for 5 minutes once it reaches pressure. Turn the heat off and keep until the lid opens in time.

Add the fish cakes and simmer for 2-3 minutes on medium heat.

Tips & Note

You can use minced beef or pork or any thinly sliced meat, whatever you prefer.
