British people think Yakisoba is baked noodles, different to the Japanese original.

Serves 2 Prep: 15 min Cook: 15 min

Ingredients

Waitrose Yakisoba recipe kit
Soba noodles (included) 200g
Dried shiitake mushrooms (included) 5g
Sauce (included) 200g
Onion 1 small
Chicken breast 100g
Salt for boiling the noodles 1 pinch
Vegetable oil 2 tbsp

Method

1
It's only £2.99 for 2. I was surprised first of all because it had genuine soba noodles in it and also because the sauce was liquid not powder. What a culture gap!
2
Put the salt into boiling water and cook the soba for 4-5 minutes. When it's done, drain the water and rub with a touch of oil to stop them sticking together.
3
Steep the dried mushrooms in hot water for 15 minutes, then drain.
4
Put some oil in a frying pan, add thin slices of seasoned chicken breast and fry before adding the sliced onion.
5
When the chicken is cooked, add the soba noodles and the sauce.
6
On a high heat, cook it until the sauce has reduced completely. It's ready to serve.

Tips & Note

I made the recipe following the instructions on the Yakisoba Recipe Kit and I was so surprised that we didn't use the liquid that the mushrooms were steeped in.
We tried this in the office - the Japanese verdict was quite controversial! But the non-Japanese thought it tasted great!
