I was absolutely smitten by a most delicious teatime treat recipe, Mary P's King of Chocolate Pies and thought I'd give it a go. I bought some Cadbury's Dairy Milk and wondered how to make a variation on it. Well, chocolate goes well with banana, so this seemed ideal. And it worked a real treat! On top of that, it was relatively easy to make - simply wrapping chocolate and banana slices in puff pastry. You don't need to add any other ingredients or flavourings. The only advice is to make sure you use good quality chocolate and fresh hard bananas. If there was one issue, it was the height of each pie. Being about half a centimetre, the pastry sheet had to pulled round to stretch over it. That's fine if you've got a few pies to make, but 24 of them took a good while. In the heat of the kitchen, the pastry became a bit soft and unmanageable. My impatient friend suggested to make fewer, but that would result in too much pastry and not enough filling in each pie. My remedy, after much thought, would be to stretch the pastry sheet by about 10% before you start, this will give you the extra you need. It's a labour of love to make these pies, but you should be rewarded by the happy faces of your dinner guests. Try my recipe for Super Delicious Easy Chocolate Banana Pie.
