Great news, cheese lovers! We're surprised no-one's thought of it before, but what a wonderful build up to Christmas for grown-up kids…a cheese advent calendar! Food blogger Annem Hobson was disappointed last year in the vast and uninteresting availability of chocolate advent calendars and was inspired to create a cheese one. The idea took off and she now has backing from a Twitter campaign to get it manufactured in time for Christmas 2017. Issues that need to be overcome are the sealed packages for miniature cheeses and how to keep the contents at optimum freshness and quality of flavour. Hey Annem, how about including a different cracker behind each door too?
There's a whole range of alternative foodie calendars to suit all tastes. If meat is your poison, you could try a pork scratching one. There's also a biscuit version, a tea version (amazing if you got both, right?), jelly beans, liquorice and, of course, whisky and spirit advent calendars. And if you love your dog more than your spouse, why not get one for the pooch? If you really want to stick to chocolate but want to remind the kids of the goodness of Christmas, there's always the chocolate sprouts advent calendar.
Remember, Christmas is not just for children.
