Combine two favourite Japanese dishes in one!

A katsu curry is almost about as Japanese as it gets...supermarkets stock all manner of related items from katsu curry sauce to a katsu curry kit. What really seems to make it authentically Japanese is using panko breadcrumbs. Panko is made from crustless bread ground into fine slivers, resulting in an airier, crisper texture that doesn't absorb oil whilst frying. Now, combine this heavenly Japanese staple with another - and the most famous - one. Sushi is an almost free-for-all wrap of your favourite things in rice. In fact, it's probably quite rare to find the original traditional tuna or cucumber sushi rolls that are unadorned with avocado, chilli, asparagus or mayonnaise.
If you have an hour or so to spare, have a go at combining the two. You might think that a chicken katsu would be quite unappetising on vinegared rice...so try using some tonkatsu sauce to overcome the flavour. If you really want to go big and bold, why not experiment with peri peri sauce?
Surely this means that the sky's the limit...who's to say the next big fad won't be dried bananas or salted dried fish in a sushi roll?! In the meantime, start slowly with the 'can't-go-wrong-it's-got-to-be-good' Chicken Katsu Hand Rolled Sushi and see where it takes you!
