Pork Burger Vietnamese Banh Mi Style

A variation on the south east Asian street food dish.

Ingredients

Minced pork 200g
Spring onions 3
Ginger 1/2 thumb
Garlic 1 clove
Sugar 1 tsp
Salt & pepper a little
Fish sauce (nam pla) 1/2 tbsp
Egg 1
Honey 2-3 tsp
Baguette enough for 4 sandwiches
Mayonnaise (optional) as you like
Sauce:
Fish sauce (nam pla) 2 tbsp
Grated garlic 1 clove
Sugar 1 tbsp
Chilli 1 tsp
Water 1 tbsp
Salad:
Herby salad
Your favourite herbs (coriander or chives) as required
Onion 1
Cucumber 1/2
Carrot 1/2

Method

Finely chop the spring onions, garlic and ginger.

Thinly slice the vegetables for the sauce in B, then cut into fine strips.

Put the minced pork, spring onions, ginger and garlic in a bowl and mix well to combine.

Add the sugar, salt & pepper and fish sauce to Step 3 and adjust for seasoning. Add the egg and mix well and divide into 4 flat patties.

Put the oil in a frying pan and fry the patties on both sides until thoroughly cooked.

Just before you remove them, brush with honey on top and cook for a little longer.

Mix all the sauce ingredients together.

Prepare 4 baguette slices by scoring and opening like buns. Lightly toast in the oven or grill.

Spread mayonnaise if you like on the baguette. Place the herby salad on the baguette and top with a burger. Serve with the sauce alongside.

Tips & Note

●You can use minced chicken instead of pork.
