Classic Creamy Porridge

Cooking in the microwave is now standard, and probably no-one would want to spend 30 minutes making this classic porridge...but we used to before the microwave appeared!

Porridge oats 1 mug
Water 3 mugs
Salt a pinch

Method

I used this Irish organic oats (£2.50 for 1 kg).

Put 1 mug of oats and 3 mugs of water into a deep pan and add the pinch of salt. Cook on medium heat.

Using the handle of a wooden spoon, keep stirring to stop lumps forming.

Keep cooking for 30 minutes for the consistency to thicken. It's ready at your preferred texture to transfer to a bowl and enjoy.

Tips & Note

●It's unlikely for anyone to spend 30 minutes on a busy morning making porridge this way and having a difficult job to clean the pan, but this recipe made me think back to the old days when mothers did exactly this.
